Antiga Hotel - The story
Antiga Hotel was created maitaining the characteristics of the former casa de indianos of Cal Manganyes. The house was built at the end of the 18th century by Captain Igancio Solé. The intense and passionate life of this indiano ( Spaniard who made his fortune in South America ) can be seen in each of his belongings, which are still preserved intact.
From Calafell, this intrepid captain crossed the Atlantic several times abord his ship, a brig named Isabel, but which was commonly referred to as "Currutaco". At the age of 40 and after a voyage in which he almost lost his life, he decided to become a priest and embarked upon a journey to the Holy Land
Salvador Vallès Rigual and Cèlia Arans Castells, the grandparents of the current owner, bought the estate from the captain and, a year later, bega to offer accommodation to families from France and other foreign countries during their summer holidays in Calafell.
In 1973, due to the large number of visiting tourists, the heirs of "Cal Xuflero", Salvador Aran and Josepa Ferré Barberà built a small hostel called "Principal", which was kept open until the end of the year 2000, when refurbishment work began.
